One of the most important sacred places in Sicily

We are located under the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima di Tindari, one of the most important sacred places in Sicily and the main attraction of Tindari.

The icon of this sanctuary is the statue of the Black Madonna, of Byzantine origins and with oriental features. The cult grew following the legend according to which the statue was found on a ship which sheltered in the bay of the current Marinello lakes to escape a storm. The same ship failed to get back to sea due to the heavy load, but in reality only after having deposited the statue was it able to resume navigation.
